I wish to consider a bound and a center to be orthogonal concepts. I would like bounds to imply limits and centers to imply tendencies. Is there anything self-contradictory about these wishes? I am imagining an indexing scheme which involves identifying types along either centers or edges of a variance along a spectrum. I am imagining that the binary edges between the types can be identified either by bounds or centers, but not both at the same time. It seems that a simple field in a record could easily identify by which scheme its types were identified.
